HNRS 3000 is a unique course in which 15 faculty members each read 1 book with a small group of honors students. If you want to teach in the Book Club, which book do you want to read with students?

What makes a course 'honors' defies precise definition, but in general they differ from regular courses in a number of ways. Honors courses will regularly cover material in greater depth, include more reading and writing, adopt a novel pedagogical approach, ask students to approach problems from multiple perspectives, and/or include more work on independent or collaborative projects.

By the end of upper-level honors seminars, each student should have produced something tangible to take with them – a research paper, creative work, business plan, model, design, etc. Honors seminars ask students to do more than complete exams.

In the space below briefly explain what makes your course an honors course.

You do not need to complete this section if you are proposing to teach one of the thesis-support courses.
Upload a course outline. This outline should include:

a. a course description (think of this as the 'catalog copy' for your new course);

b. a list of course topics and readings;

c. a description of assignments/assessments with grade percentages;

d. Learning Outcomes (most honors courses receive designation in the core so you may want to keep the category outcomes for the university core in mind when you write your own);

e. a proposed budget (honors courses have a $500 budget for course activities, and instructors developing a new course have $650 to offset course development expenses);

f. description of faculty expertise - how does this course relate to your academic or professional background?
